ADVICE AND FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ON ARTIFICIAL GRASS, ASTRO TURF AND SYNTHETIC SPORTS SURFACE

My surface isn't draining as quickly as it used to?
Pitches that have not received regular maintenance are often compacted, this can make drainage slower or it may be to do with the level of contamination present in the surface.

Action: Intensive Maintenance will decompact the surface, this should aid drainage, however, if the surface is very contaminated we recommend you look at a summer rejuvenation or full surface rejuvenation.
After rain fall, I'm left with muddy or silt like patches on my Astro?
Older pitches get contaminated over time and the breakdown of stick, leaf and other debris inhibits the drainage, this leaves silt or mud in rings where it can't drain away quickly enough. This is the same reason you get soap rings or dirt rings in a bath.

Action: Winter rejuvenation will relieve the symptoms, improve drainage and allow minimum disruption or loss of revenue, but sometimes will not always cure the problem. We would recommend you look at a summer rejuvenation or full surface rejuvenation.
Sludge sits on our surface when it rains and will not drain away, why?
This is often caused by live algae, do the 'boot test' -drag your boot or shoe across the surface and if the muddy water moves then pools, it's live algae, you may also notice an oily film on it's surface. Sludge or wet silt can also sit if the surface can't drain due to contamination.

Action: Chemical treatment as part of regular maintenance is recommended and all artificial grass surfaces should have two treatments against moss, algae and mould per year, one in Autumn and one in Spring. If it's a contaminated surface a part of full rejuvenation will correct the problem
My surface is covered in snow, I need my facility open, can you clear it?
Yes, in cold weather you can use pdv salt to stop the surface freezing. A Power Sweep can then be used to clear the surface. IMPORTANTLY DO NOT USE GRIT OR ROCK SALT AS THIS WILL DAMAGE YOUR SURFACE.

Action: Pdv Salt is available from our shop under Winter Essentials along with a selection of spreaders and power sweeps. Or we can arrange to come and clear your surface for you.
Why are my seams slightly raised?
This is generally the first indicator that a seam is beginning to fail, the raised area will be caused by infill getting under the surface.

Action: Seams need to be tested and where they are beginning to fail, repaired or patched. If you have a Regular Maintenance contract in place, this will be picked up quickly. Our Pitch Perfect contract includes free seam repairs.
Why do I have rucking appearing on my surface near the seams?
Artificial grass can stretch and move over time, sometimes it can become restricted by curb stones or one section moves more than another causing rucking where the sections of carpet are joined.

Action: Rucking can be cut out and patched, this will remove the trip hazard and leave the pitch safe for play.
I moved a goal and ripped my surface, what should I do?
Cone off the area and call or email for emergency repairs as soon as possible.
Action: Telephone 01354 65 44 22 or email info@artificialgrasscambridge.co.uk
Why do I have moss appearing all around the perimeter of my surface?
Nature will always try to populate your artificial surface and this must be removed before it leads to long term drainage issues.

Action: Chemical treatment as part of regular maintenance is recommended and all artificial grass surfaces should have two treatments against moss, algae and mould per year, one in Autumn and one in Spring.
The pile on my pitch is sitting very flat and people are slipping over, what should I do?
After time infill cam become contaminated in the bottom of the pile and this can leave unsupported pile laying flat, this can cause a slippery surface.

Action: Decompaction and addition of infill as part of an intensive maintenance or part rejuvenation will get the pile sitting upright, a regular maintenance programme will prevent this from happening again.
My surface is wearing thin in the heavy play areas, what can I do?
The reality is the surface is getting to the end of its life. In many cases this can be patched
but we will advise you honestly and sometimes its better to draw the line and replace it.

Action: Our staff can give you a time line on how any possible repairs can increase the pitch life, then you can see if the repairs are a worthwhile investment.
Can I have additional lines added to my surface for other sports?
It is possible to add cut in lines, two part paint or temporary lines to any surface.

Action: let us know what sport you would like and we can arrange a price for temporary or permanent lines.
Weeds are growing through my surface, what can I do?
3G and 4G surfaces are often laid on dynamic stone bases and weeds can often appear around the outside.

Action: As part of regular maintenance on all 3G and 4G surfaces, we remove all weeds and weed kill the perimeter.
We have no rubber in the goal mouth and centre but piles around the side lines, what's happening?
Rubber migrates from the heavy play areas and piles in other areas.

Action: Regular maintenance involves levelling of infill, or our Renew will brush, decompact and level infill every time it's used.
Can I have additional lines added to my surface for other sports?
It is possible to add cut in lines, two part paint or temporary lines to any surface.

Our surface is slippery and our kit is green not white!
Live algae is a massive problem with water based hockey and needs to be chemically treated regularly as well as intensively cleaned.

Action: intensive cleaning followed be regular chemical treatments.
